The Israel Patent Office’s report 2023

The Israel Patent Office’s 2023 report presents an intriguing snapshot of intellectual property activity in Israel.

 

There was an 8.2% decrease in patent applications, totaling 9,253 applications, of which 15.7% were filed by Israeli applicants and the rest by foreigners. This trend is evident across all fields, with the most significant drop in computers, communications, and medical devices (-13.9%).
Biosense -Webster (Israel) Ltd. led local applications with 97 filings, followed by Yeda, the technology transfer company of the Weizmann Institute, with 48 applications, and the Volcani Institute with 29 applications. Among foreign applicants, Regeneron topped the list with 142 applications, followed by Magic Leap (104 applications) and Hofmann La Roche (101 applications).

A slight decrease (about 5%) was also observed in PCT applications filed with the Israeli Patent Office. A parallel decline in filing numbers was seen in trademarks (13%), while design applications saw a slight increase (7%).
