Solight: Utilizing Natural Light
On days like these, we find strength and hope in every piece of good news. We’re excited to share that Solight , a valued client of ours, has successfully installed a natural light harnessing solution at one of the Israel Railways’ logistics facilities in Be’er-Sheva.
Globally, and specifically in Israel, there’s a growing adoption of sustainable solutions to address environmental issues. One such solution is utilizing natural light, an approach that is eco-friendly, health-promoting, cost-effective, and a preferable alternative to artificial lighting powered by fossil fuels-based sources, which produce excess heat emissions and increase cooling loads.
Beyond the benefits of efficiency, cost savings, and being environmentally friendly, natural lighting-specifically from the sun-also has significant health benefits. Humans have evolved under natural sunlight, attuned to the natural light-darkness cycles of our planet. Nowadays, we spend the bulk of our waking hours in spaces lit artificially, leading to issues like daytime fatigue, insomnia, learning and attention deficits, obesity, and depression. Exposure to sunlight can positively influence various health aspects, including Alzheimer’s disease, bone health, recovery times, myopia in children, reduction in workplace accidents, and improvements in workplace efficiency, attention deficit disorders, and more.
Solight developed an innovative system for natural lighting that makes our buildings healthier and more energy-efficient. Installed on roofs or building sides, Solight’s patented technology features, unique three-dimensional structure that efficiently captures substantial amounts of natural sunlight. This system, known as the optimized static collector (OSC), is durable and designed to absorb solar radiation from a wide range of angles, and supply consistent sun-light intensity to indoor spaces from shortly after sunrise to nearly sunset.
The lighting provided by Solight’s systems is of full-spectrum, natural, and can be customized for heat penetration without the risk of dangerous UV exposure, offering significant energy savings during daylight hours. This system ensures a steady distribution of indoor natural light throughout the day, regardless of the season of the year.
Patent attorney Zvi Jacobson, a founding partner at our firm and a key figure behind the company’s patents, notes that Solight obtained patents protection for various sunlight collection configurations in Israel, the USA, Australia, China, and Europe, and soon also in India.
Solight has been recognized with grants from the Israel Innovation Authority , the European Union, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Environmental Protection, SIBF2 VC and the ClimateKIC venture capital fund and is currently actively marketing its products in Israel.
